Need help installing stock heatsink on AMD 3200+

Hi guys, this is my first build and I have a question about installing the retail heatsink and fan on an AMD athlon 64 3200+.

I'm installing it on a Lanparty NF4 Motherboard and I've already snapped the processor in and locked it in place. I'm just having trouble finding which way the heatsink should be oriented and how it snaps into place.

I've been using Mechbgon's guide for newbies but his heatsink example is different than mine. Also, the cable for the fan is a 3-pin but I can't find a 3 pin near the processor socket on the mobo.

Thanks.

There should be a 3-pin connector that says "CPU FAN" between the RAM dimms and where your audio connectors go.
As for the HSF, the locking yellow plastic peice around the CPU socket has a locking tab on each side. Just align it to lock down on either side.

Thanks Ike. As for the orientation of the HSF, there is a small black locking arm on it. How should this be alinged? If I were facing the processor head on so that it was right side up and the locking arm is to my right, where should the clip with the black arm be on the HSF?

BTW, does it matter if the black arm on my HSF does not look like the wraparound in the instructions? When you say to hook it under this part, are you thinking of the arm being like an "L"-shaped device?

Look in your MB manual. There is a step by step on this. Let me know if that helps.

I'm afraid to say that the manual for this mobo isn't very good as it doesn't have a step by step on anything. Only a quickstart guide and some other stuff. If anyone has the lanparty NF4 ultra d mobo manual feel free to tell me which page you are referring to.

OK. This manual is not the one that shipped with my mobo but thanks anyway.

The HSF that is pictured on page 27 with the three prongs and the metal arm is not the one that came with my processor.

Either way you should have a metal arm that goes thru the middle of the HS with 2 flat ends that each have 3 square holes. Correct?

Yes, that's right. Sorry to confuse you.
Set the HSF down on the CPU and connect one end of the arm to the center notch on one side of the plastic base. Then carefully push down the other arm end with your finger end until it latches onto the other side of the plastic base.
Then simply push the locking arm down and it will hook on to the part I circled in the pic.

OK it's in. Thanks for the help, Ike.

BTW, there are 2 pci-express slots for video cards. When I insert the card into pcie 1 the end of the card causes the fan with the DFI logo on it to become immobile. (Pic)

Can I simply insert the card into slot pcie3?

Sorry if I am asking too many questions but this is my first build.

Well I'n very happy you got the HSF installed. :)
As for the PCI-e card issue, unfortunately I have no idea. Read the the MB manual, the one you got and the one I linked.
If that doesn't help, start a new thread with that question as the topic. That will likley gain more responses.
Good luck with the rest and don't worry about asking too many questions. It's much better to ask than to screw something up.
