Need help installing retail boxed 2.53 P4!!

After I insert the CPU into the mobo socket and before installing the heatsink and fan, do I need to apply any kind of thermal grease? There was none in the box and it looks like there's some kind of black stuff on the bottom of the heatsink. Is this all I need? Do I just set the heatsink and fan down on the CPU?
 
That is what you call a "Thermal pad" on the bottom of that there Heatsink. All you do is install the stock heatsink onto the cpu. Just take your time and be carfull not to damage the processor. No thermal grease needed for the stock Heatsink. Thats only if you decide to use the thermal pad. The stock HS/F is pretty good as long as you don't overclock to much. Good Luck. 😉
