Need help installing DFI Ultra-D

I recently purchased a DFI Lanparty ULtra-D for a build I'm doing but I haven't had to deal with motherboards in a few years. I have connected the 24-pin and the 4-pin power connectors to the board. THe DFI manual says there is another power connection of +5V and there is an FDD and HDD type. I'm not sure what this is. I think I see the pins on the board.

Are these connections necessary? What should I do here? Thanks in advance!

IMHO, the floppy and molex connections are to provide more power for you graphics card in case of SLI... The board features two 16x lanes, and the SLI version has the same connectors... Normally you shouldn't need to connect either one of those, except if you experience instability under heavy load... It should be fine...

EDIT: Welcome to the forums!

Wow, I knew you guys were quick but that was lightning fast! Thanks! I'm not doing SLI so your answer tells me that everything should be ok without these auxilliary connectors. If I missed the point let me know! Thanks again.

This is what Viperlair.com writes about it:

"Under the socket is a 4 pin 5v/12v floppy connector which should be used along with the standard 24pin power, 4 pin ?P4? power and a Molex connector sitting to the mid right of the board. All of these power connections are there to aid in stability, especially when using two PCIe graphics cards. The 4pin P4 and the 24pin ATX connector both sit top left of the motherboard which really moves them out of the way; there really isn?t a much better space for them. Although the Molex connection also sits on the left of the board, the position of the 4pin floppy is practically in the middle of the board which does mean, if used, a little routing of wiring from the PSU will be needed."

So maybe you do need the floppy to be connected from the beginning... Give it a try... You can't do something wrong actually... It will just not boot...

The people at DFI street say that both of the extra power connectors should be used even in single card mode for maximum stability. It doesn't hurt to plug them in, anyway.

Simple but true... 🙂 You'll just have to make sure the cabling is a bit tidy... 😉
