Need help installed a raid mobo

I just got an Epox 8k3a+ the other day and I am now ready to put it in my system. I am currently using an Epox 8k7a (non-raid version). This is my first time to deal with a raid mobo at all. Will I be able to take my exisiting HDD and just plug it right into the raid controller and be able to boot or will I need to set it up first? I need some help. I am pretty clueless here.

your only going to plug into the raid controller on the motherboard if you are running more than one harddrive in a form of raid. There is a good (but old) raid how-to on the anandtech mainsite that gives some details on the various modes. If you are hooking up one existing harddrive than hook it to the non-raid primary channel. I have raid running the MSI KT3 Ultra2-R and it's very fast with two 40gig 7200/133 drives (thanks to the hotdeals forum). The only thing is my sandra score isn't up to par so I'm looking for answers here.
