Hi,
Ok, when I check one online Speed-Test the results are usually around <2720 Kbps> and when I check it at another site the results are given in this way, <149Mbs>.

Could someone explain this to me please?

TIA,

Some sites are run by crackheads, your connection speed is 2.7 megabits per second. That's roughly 280kb\s download rate.

Which sites are you using for your speed tests? DSL Reports is a great site for checking your speed. Ok....I'm gonna give this a shot. Speeds are generally measured in Mb(Megabits) with broadband speed as opposed to MB(Megabytes). There are 8 bits in a byte so whatever your speed is......you need to divide by 8 and you'll have your speed in Kilobytes. If I have a 2Mb(megabit) connection(2048kb respectively) and I divide it by 8....my max speed is 256KB per second. The general concensus for download is that it is MUCH faster than upload. If your general speed is 2Mb down, your upload will most likely be either 128kb(about 16k) or 256(about 30k).

2720kbps / 8 bits = 340K for your max speed.

I'm wondering if your "149Mbs" part isn't your upload speed. Perhaps it's 149kb(which would be pretty close to a 128kb upload or slightly lower than 256kb...if you're uploading or using some of the upload). I probably didn't clarify very well......but hopefully this will explain a little bit of what you asked.

Actually, 2.7Mbps is equal to roughly 2800Kbps. Which is roughtly 340KBps. Note: 1000Kb is equal to 1Mb. The lower case "b" and upper case "B" denotes bits and bytes respectively. A byte is equal to 8 bits.

Depending on which speedtest you are using, you will always get varied results. One reason is the location of the speedtest server, so it's best to find something local to you.

This is a reliable speedtest

Also you need to factor in TCP overhead which is about 10%. Therefore if you have a 3Mbit connection you should be downloading around ~360 KB/sec.

Which sites are you using for your speed tests?

Here are the ones that I have been using:

MSN Tech & Gadgets
btw, I just ran it and it was at 1963.4 Kbps

and Time Warner
Half way down the screen towards the right click on "Network Speed Test"
also just ran it, 157Mps

another good one is: 2WIRE

to use this one click near the top right where it says "Speed Meter"

just ran it, 1788.7 Kbps

the reason that I have been checking it so much is almost always at 2WIRE.com it will show 2.9/3.0kbps
and recently it has been down low around 1200Kbps, and that got me questioning my server..

Oh. Well Fvck you. It means something totally different with the upper case "F." :p
