Need help in linux driver

I am trying to use a 3com 3C509-B TPO ISA card in linux.( mandrake 8.2) The card is recognised by the dos utility by 3com and I have turned of the pnp mode as suggested by the 3com website. Linux however does not recognise it. I tried to do insmod 3c509, but still the card is not recognised. Do I have to enter the IRQ and other parameters manually? If yes, how?
There must be someone who has used that card in linux..Please explain me in simple steps how to do it..
Thanks
