Need help in dealing with a car dealership

My wife needed a new car and I started a thread about all the different cars we were going to look at. My wife decided on the Jetta and today we reserved the car and probably going to go back tomorrow to sign all the papers.

Details:

2007 VW Jetta Wolfsberg Edition
Leather Interior
Sunroof
16" wheels
Cold Weather Package

The car still has all the plastic on the seats and outside of the car but it has 25 miles on it.
I believe the sticker has it for $21,679 and they are offering it to us for $21,204.

Is that a fair price and should we take it? It is the only Wolfsberg left that they have and the only one within 100 miles of us.

Thanks in advance!!

Is that price OTD, or are they going to tack on the TTL, delivery fee, storage fee, my-daughter's-new-clothes fee, party-this-weekend fee, and because-we-hate-our-customers fee?

OTD price is $23,033 after taxes, fees, etc

compare on carsdirect.com

also look at edmunds TMV.

Carsdirect has it for $21,490 and Edmunds TMV was around $21,600....not sure if those are OTD prices

no, they're not. i think carsdirect only includes the delivery fee, edmunds may be the same.

what other fees do they want to charge you? and is the tax rate right for your state?

The taxes were $1828.84 (8.64% for NY)
I think there was a $80 dealer fee and then the tags were $100 or something. I dont recall off hand. I have the paperwork at home.

I'm looking around on cars.com and I see some in my area for $20,679, $20,579 and $20,100 all which are cheaper then the $21,204 they are offering me.

If it is the only one, then you may have to pay the premium. I think they have a little more room for negotiation. However, if it is the only one with in 100 miles, then you may be at loss. How much would an 08 cost?

Also, my experience with VW dealers have not been good. They really stick to teh price they want to sell it at.

I just called the dealership that had all the wolfburgs listed on cars.com and they didnt have any left. The two dealerships we went to they would not budge at all on the price.

I'm not sure if they makes the Wolfs for '08 yet but the biggest selling point for the '07s is that they are 0% APR for 36 months or 2.9% for 48 months.

When I was looking at the Rabbit, the sticker was in the high 18k. I couldn't even get it down to 17.9K (and this was the end of the month also). One thing i did notice is that most VW dealers do not carry alot of stock. They only had about 5 Rabbits when I went. I guess VW controls supply so they are always in demand.

If it's the car you want, then you have to be prepared to accept the best deal you can make on it.

Some one else will always pay less than you, and it just isn't worth worrying about. Make a deal you can live with and enjoy your new ride

I understand that but I just wanted to make sure I am not over paying for the car. My wife had just wanted a plain jane 07 Jetta which we got down to $18,200 but we went to another dealership and they showed us the Wolf and it was much nicer. So for $3000 more we got the better sound system, sunroof, cold weather package, stability control, tire pressure monitoring system, leather interior and the better wheels.

That's the best way to look at it. If you do not buy it, some else will. you do not want to go 100 miles out of way, right? At best, you'll save $1000, at worst, you'll save $400 juding by teh otehr rpices you found. My rule of thumb is always never pay above what edmunds tells you. that price should be your max.

Dealers around here are doing Passats for around 20k new. I'd rather take the 2.0T and bigger Passat over the Jetta for the $$.

sound system is bose? It's good, but not the best. I think it's good, but there ar ebetter after market systems for less premium. Rims? Big deal...you ar egonna get alloy rims either way. Leather? Don't they have it in the non Wolf? Tire pressure? I thought all cars came with now. cold weather package? what is that? So, teh only thing that you cannot add on to the regular version is the stability control.

only problem with that is there is no special financing rates on the passats.

Um I dont think you understand it correctly. They are moving out the 07s to make room for the 08s. You cant just add those features onto the non wolf because you can only pick whats on the lot. Every dealership I been to only have 2-3 07s left. So thats the big problem...because I want to get the 0.0% or 2.9% financing.

I just looked up 07 Passats and they are ranging from 24,000-31,000 here.

I meant on the 08s....the 07s have the same as the Jettas. And I havent been able to find one under $24,000 here

I'd rather not. I was just saying for $3000 I get all those other options....which I thought was a bargain. I'm sure that if I add all those things I'll be close to the $3000 anyways plus I really dont feel like installing a sunroof myself.

LOL, I think my dad had it about right after about the 10th recall notice he got on his 76' Rabbit, "Fvcking Volkswagen"

I'd buy a domestic over a VW any day of the week. VW just toys with the US market for the hell of it.

Like others said compare your final price online with what is average for your area.

also 25 miles is possible for a car fresh off the trailer...I think some cars have a one time reset for pre-delivery mileage. I think that it wouldn't exist though as what if it wasn't triggered at the dealership and 10,000 or so miles later you reset it.
