Need help guys.

I have used INTEL processors for some years now but all the great reviews about the Mobile Athlons have me convinced to go back to AMD. The processor will be the Mobile Athlon XP 2600+. Question is, what Mainboard? I want to overclock, and I want all the bells and whistles! Has to have SATA as well. Thanks for your help.

OK, what about the

SOYO SY-KT600 Dragon Ultra Platinum,

GIGABYTE GA-7N400 Pro2, or the

ABIT AN7 ???

Thanks for the help...

I'd suggest staying away from VIA, and getting an nForce2 board. I'll give the Abit NF7-S my vote.

I remember in my old AMD days I never liked VIA chipsets too much - 4in1s - a royal pain in the butt, and the FSB was always the limiting factor... Has anything changed?

I've tried the Asus A7N8X-Deluxe and the Abit NF7-S and I think the Abit is definately a better overclocking board. In fact, I'm really happy with my NF7-S. Most NF7's get to 220-230 FSB.
Don't get the AN7.
The DFI Lan Party will get higher FSB, 250 or more. But you have to be willing to use a lot of vdimm to do that with good timings. Also, at the same FSB as the NF7 the lan party is slower. And the NF7 will give you the highest cpu overclock.

OK, the Abit NF7-S it is! Now, does have AGP/PCI lock, what brand of RAM and in what configuration are you guys running it? What exactly does "Dual Channel" mean?

I wish I bought the NF7-S instead of my AT7-MAX 2. I'm happy with the performance of the board but the nForce2 bragging rights are much better than the "outdated" KT400.
