hi , i am new to computers and was planning to get a computer based on AMD processor.please give me a good config .i will use it mainly for CAD/CAM graphics and internet.
price is my main concern thats y i am opting for AMD based stuff.
about the mob ,is it good to go for a all integrated mob which includes soung ,video, lan .and how is this mob A7N266-VM.i dont no how good this mob is ,may be u all can help me out in this .
also as i am new to computer hardware stuff overclocking is way too far 🙂.

expecting good reply

thanx in advance

I am not am AMD fan so I cannot help you much. However, you say the machine will be used for CAD/CAM . . . . I would not recommend integrated video :Q

However, integrated sound and LAN would not be a bad idea.

you will need a good vid card if you want to do cad/cam

personally i would choose a motherboard based on the via kt333 chipset (i like the epox 8k3a+)
then get the fastest cpu for the price your wanting to spend (an athlonXP somewhere between 1600+ and faster)
for a video card im not sure what would be best for a budget cad/cam machine.. but something like an geforce4 ti4200 should work well and not cost to much

if the gf4ti4200 is to much then maybe a gf3ti200 (dont get a gf4mx)

so whch kt333 chipset mob do u advice. may be below 100$. and also a suitable RAM for that porpose. also should i go for a retail or OEM XP processor.

personally i like the epox 8k3a, and 8k3a+ (about $80 for the 8k3a, and $120 for the + version)
the MSI KT3 Ultra2 is also a good board for about $90

the retail version of the athlonxp comes with a heatsink/fan
if you plan to overclock the OEM would be best cause you will want a better heatsink then the one that comes with retail
if you dont plan to overclock you can go with what ever is cheaper (if you can find an oem and hsf for cheaper then the retail thats what i would do... otherwise go with the retail)

for ram you will probably want ddr pc2700
my personal choice would be samsung 512mb pc2700 (around $150)... the 256mb version is around $70

all of this you can get pretty cheap at newegg.com (except they only have the 8k3a+, not the 8k3a... if you want the $80 epox board you can get it at mwave.com)

can i use any RAM ,i mean of any company ,or are there any compatability issues between RAM, mob's and processor .

also can u give me good online stores which r prompt and trusted for the quality and good prices too 🙂

and a big case

That thing isnt that good. As for galaxyboy I would Highly recomend a p4, but you said price so I guess AMD it is, here is what I recomend:

All from NEWEGG

- AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53GHz $85.00
- CoolerMaster HHC-001 Copper HSF $26.00
- EPOX 8K3A+ KT333CE $120.00
- 512MB Samsung PC-2700 DDR333 $132.00 (go to www.googlegear.com its cheaper there for ram)
- Maxtor 60GB 7200RPM HD $92.00
- ATi FireGL 8800 128MB $460.00

There you go, thats all w/o shipping so its a bit more shipped. You said cad/cam and you need a good Workstation card for that if you want it to be somewhat fast. Hope that helps 😀

I have the 8k3a and I love it. Cmedia 8738 cards are $19.99 everywhere, the only reason to get the 8k3a+ is the raid (32bit PCI RAID cards suck). I got mine from mwave.com, and they were grrrreat. They usually have bundle specials, where you get an OEM CPU and a decent HSF. The cost of the CPU is higher (than competitors'), but you save on shipping, and it's convenient. With that said, if this is going to be a critical machine, the 3-year retail box warranty (and the free retail HSF) may be worth the extra cost. The only downside to the 8k3a is the lack of USB 2.0. If you're not going to be overclocking, and you need USB 2.0, then there are other motherboards with USB 2.0. I've tried several boards and none overclock as well as the epox.

If you're not going to be overclocking, you might as well spend your money on good PC2100 instead of PC2700, as the performance difference is negligible @ 133mhz. (I've tried Samsung PC2700, Nanya PC2100, and Crucial PC2100).
