Need Help if I should OC

Here are my specs:

Intel Core2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93GHz
P5G41T-M LX
Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G x 2
Nvidia GT430 Gb 128-bit
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB

Thing is, I'm using this system to play MMORPGs (not in max settings just low-mid). I also use it for general photo editing and video editing and for watching HD movies. Should I change to i3 or is my current system up to the task for another 2 - 3 years? or should i just get a good cooling system and OC e7500 - 3.4GHz

this system seems fine for low end gaming photo & video editing.Imo I would stick with and save money for a nice system when hasswell or broadwell comes out unless money is no issue.

Dont think a 500mhz oc will change much maybe go a bit higher if you can. I only got a few seconds faster in 3d render on a i3 530 oced from 2.9ghz to 3.3ghz.

If you are running windows 7 a ssd might be a good idea.

Depends what MMO's you are playing although you don't say if you are happy with the frame rates you are getting. The idea is to make your system last as long as possible although you might struggle to get another 2-3 years out of it depending on which games you want to play.

oc the hell out of it with current settings. what heatsink/fan do you have now? unless its stock oem, i don't think you will get that much out of new heatsink.

save money.

upgrade system when it starts to have problems or things are not fast enough.

Overclock first. Then if you are not happy, upgrade. Stability test, though. Memtest HCI, Prime 95, LinX

Good plan.

One really only needs Prime 95 and Intel Burn test.

Intel Burn Test takes care of the Memory and intial-overclock. 😎

Prime 95 will take care of the 24/7 stress-testing.😀

Ivy would be a night and day upgrade to you. Ivy to Haswell will be nowhere near that I guess. I would upgrade to Haswell if you upgrade once in 3-4 years only. If you are willing to upgrade once in 2-3 years then get ivy now

If you don't feel any problems w/ your current crop of games and apps, I don't see the need to upgrade. although if u do see some slow down in games, i'd just get a better g-card for an upgrade.

No it would NOT be night and day. :\

Desktop will feel pretty much the same.

Only starcraft 2 and bf3 will be faster.

From the inputs. I'd just save up to get to at least an I5, a mid 550Ti another Mobo (coz my mobo won't support an IB processor) and an SSD (80 GB at the most). I really really nice community. 🙂.
