please excuse if this is obvious but this is our first time trying to do this and the damm gateway tech support people won't tell us what kind of mother board they put in the computer. we have a p2 450 100 fsb with an agp slot bought about sept 98 bios is 4m4pb0x1.15a.0029.p17
we want to replace the processor with an 850 p3 100fsb slot 1 if it will be compatable with the motherboard we have. we know we may have to get a voltage reducer if it isn't one of the 440bx's but if it is a 440bx then we should be ok.
is this correct and if it isn't then does anyone know of a way to identify the board from the bios number. The damn thing is kind of buried and we can't see it very well. any help will be welcome.
