I hate it when these things happen. All of sudden I will get a glimpse of an old movie that is probably stupid now, but I liked at the time, and I cannot think of the name or actors in it. I searched Google and the plots at IMDB, but no luck. I can remember the plot though...

There was this guy and girl who lived in the country that were getting married soon. The guy had saved up for his dream car which appeared to be some Lamborghini fake I guess. He took off for Dallas or some city in Texas where he was tricked into getting a lemon of an automobile. Things on the car started failing, etc. I think the sales women at the dealership helped him get a working car in the end after feeling sorry for him. Other things happened too like this one scene where he ate really bad burritos or something.

Anyone have any idea what it is?

Thanks.

I liked this review of the movie:

Because I had been awakened by a thunderstorm and, surfing the channels to find something to put me back to sleep, I came across this slick example of 80's moviemaking. It induced in me the state of fascination one experiences watching a python slowly choke the life out of its prey. Rather like listening to the tortured logic politicians use to explain away a really, really stupid military excursion gone bad.

Here we see a fine job of cinematography, great editing, snappy if occasionally vulgar dialogue, good use of locations, and more or less appropriate casting -- all of it thrown away by someone in production who thought it was worth filming in the first place. I use the word "slick" solely in a pejorative sense. The premise of the story depends on a well-worn gag similar to Neil Simon's old "Out-of-Towners" from 1970 and its various copycats like "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles."

Only this rehash features a single young man coming to despair in (don't let the children hear this) that evil metropolis of sin called Dallas. Shucks, let this be a lesson to you. Hee-Haw revisited. How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm...etc., etc. The only thing missing is Mr. Haney and his pig from Green Acres.

Mind you, there are in fact places in the United States where the collective I.Q. rarely exceeds room temperature. But Dallas -- alas! -- is not one of them. Not that this film wouldn't fill the old picture shows in rural Texas, or in certain remote valleys of Pennsylvania, but generally speaking no one who can read a book without using his index finger would go anywhere near it.

Shame on whoever passed on this excuse for a script. And let the re-runs be confined to TV channels that show it only at 3 a.m.

Entertaining Movie, 14 September 1999

Author: Ken-208 from Illinois

I saw this about 10 years ago ... but really like it. Here's what I remember of the movie:

A young man travels a long distance to buy an expensive sports car a few days before his wedding. His new car has problems and he is stranded. He trys to get the car fixed but finds out because he didn't buy an "extended warranty" there is no warranty on the car and he has bought a worthless lemon.

He sets out to get even with the dealership. Along the way he meets a beautiful woman. He tries to buy a bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne because she tells him it makes her wild. He gets robbed at the liquor store when trying to buy the champagne. The crooks also steal his champagne. Movie is very funny, strange, and entertaining.
