A couple months back I watched something on what I think was PBS. It was about a man in his 50's that moved to the woods and built a cabin and lived there for a couple decades or so. For the life of me I can't recall the mans name or remember the name of the movie. The guy was an amazing craftsman and basically lived off the land. Any ideas?

The show is titled Alone in the Wilderness. PBS shows it a couple times a year. I've watched it twice. Fascinating.

There was also a PBS special on video games...anyone catch that and have a synopsis or know where I can still see it?

Yes, it was called "The Videogame Revolution". It was the first thing i recorded with my newly hacked tivo - I don't want to get in trouble with the mods so just email me if you want to talk more about this.
