If its a barracuda V its the same one I have. Easiest way to cool them is to position them in internal 3.5 slots with an intake fan pushing fresh air over them. One side of the HD conducts heat moreso than the other, so keep that in mind with how you position the fans/drives. What case do you have, that will make a difference in your setup.

Yeah, if you can install them with a bit of a gap and put a 80mm fan (L1A or something 7 volted, quiet) in front of the HD with enough room to grab some air, you'd be suprised how well that type of setup can keep a HD cool. Best of all, it's not one of those cheap bottom plates with the fan that goes bad after a few months. Essentially, this is a home-made version of the antec/chemming 10X0 series HD cage.

My main machine has all its HDs (those hot running 75GXPs and 60 GXPs) mounted in 5.25" adapter rails and 80 mm adjustable fans added to two blank 5.25" drive covers with an appropriate octagon cut out of the pairs. This design gets fresh air blowing over the HDs at all times and is just enough to keep them at around 30C (smart temp reporting).

Hey,
I have a standered ATX casein for my P4, and i'm not sure what do you mean by an internal 3.5 slot, i don't know of specific words for portions in the casein, but by drive is right below my Floppy drive, but i do have some spacing inbetween, should i put a fan under the drive......... I'm sorry i'm being really dumb here........ i really don't know what to do.....

Thank you.......

By internal 3.5" slot he means the bays that are meant for hard drives, generally found under your floppy bay :) Most cases put the 3.5 bays in front of your intake fans so that the intake air blows over the hard drives keeping them cool.

you could also put them in a bucket of ice. this also serves to muffle those noisy hard drives, too, if you have them.

...
I'm kidding! :)

Yeah, we're trying to tell you that for a few bucks (cost of a single 80mm fan) you can emulate this http://images2.newegg.com/productimage/11-125-200-06.JPG type of design. In my case, I emulated it by using 5.25"/CD-Rom bays and cutting parts out of, attaching a fan to the bay covers.

Even SCSI hard drives (higher temp units) only need a little bit of air constantly blowing over them to keep them really cool. All it takes is a little airflow.
