Or, if you don't have a flash drive, you could burn yr entire MP3 folder to a DVD, I just checked and mine is under 4GBs, if yours is bigger, you just use more than one DVD.

This would prolly be faster and easier than using W Easy Transfer and a cable between the two systems, given it seems it's only yr music files you need transferred.

If you have a fast Internet connection, you could create a Google Play account. Upload them to the account (which in effect provides the added benefit of backing up your collection and also making them available to you via the cloud), then download them again to the new machine.

Again, though, this is only a real option if you have an Internet connection with a fast upload/download.

Not to be paranoid, but I wanna know who is in charge of encryption in these clouds? Including Apple's.

I recently got an offer from my provider, RCN for $5 a month for unlimited data cloud storage. I posted about this here, and my little paranoia was kinda confirmed, so I stick to my internal backup strategy.

I would, personally still choose burn folder to DVD, will take no time, you don't have to sit around while it's burning, and you could use a DVD-RW! As the crow flys.

But, after learning yr options, you should obviously choose what is right for you.

My music is the ONLY thing I'll put on the cloud - nothing else. Even then, I have a slow upload, so it took me a few days to get it all there. The free Google Play account also gives me the added benefit of upgrading most of my songs to a higher bitrate as long as I access them online, with the ability to re-download them (at the original bitrates) if I have a hardware failure (essentially a 3rd backup supplementing my onsite backup, but I spent a lot of time and money on my collection so having another option is worth it).

If you are using cloud storage for anything else, though, you might be better off encrypting the files yourself before uploading them.

Excellent clarifications. I now get you, as a unique human, have good and proprietary reasons to keep yr music in the cloud! Plus, given it's only music, NO DANGER.

I know lots of people who are either all Apple or going Apple. My BF included. They, AND ALL THEIR EVERYTHING are all now in the CLOUD....all their devices integrated.:ninja: And now, everyone, including MS has conceived and gestated CLOUDS of their own.

Truth is, the whole thing creeps me out.():)

You can use Dropbox and drop the files in there by folder and pull them out on the other computer.

Good idea! But only cause he's only doing music files. Cause, i have same paranoia re encryption with Dropbox as I do all the others.

I mean, what they are able to hack now increasingly is wicked scary...i.e., if you have a certain kind of CC, just standing in line, if that card is not in a special little sleeve, you can get hacked.

FORTY MILLION CARDS HACKED AT TARGET! Even including, I think, security codes.....but not sure about that part. A veritable, EPIC NITEMARE:eek:

Otherwise, we have total peace of mind. NOT.
