NEED HELP -- horrible benchmarks for Matrox G450

The following video benchmarks were created with Dr. Hardware 2000. My system specs are included in this printout. (The motherboard is an MSI K7T Pro, MS-6330.)

PDF file

This is a Matrox Millenium G450 running in an AGP 4x slot. AGP 4x is enabled in my CMOS. So why are these benchmarks so pathetic? Is there something I haven't enabled here that I should?

Any help in solving this problem is appreciated. Thanks.

Um, these were all 2D benchmarks. According to the Dr. Hardware help file, the video benchmark "measures the 2D video performance via GDI API calls." There's no indication that this was measuring 3D at all -- especially when the benchmark test was drawing graphics on my screen. This fact (combined with several new audio glitches in Cakewalk Pro Audio 8) have me thinking something isn't right with this video card.

For the record, I didn't buy this card for its 3D performance. I bought it for the DualHead output and the outstanding 2D performance. I'm not getting the latter. So the question stands, if Matrox 2D is supposed to be so good, why are these benchmarks so pitiful, and what can I do to fix it?

Hey NinthKey, I'm just as concerned as you. In my topic: "What's my best bet for great 2D?", everyone came back with Matrox G400/450, and I was all set to get one!

Jay,

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll try video2000 tonight. I'm sure this is fixable; I'm just not sure how...

Ninth Key have you tried posting your question at the Matroxusers forum? I've got the same motherboard and I was thinking of buying the G450, hope you find your answer. :)

Jay,

Here are my benchmarks from Video2000:

- 1486 Videomarks
- 731 Quality Marks
- 209 Performance Marks
- 547 Feature Marks

I noted during the test that all the memory transfers were non-AGP, which may be affecting the Performance Marks here. This leads me to believe that AGP is NOT enabled and thus this card isn't performing nearly as well as it should.

Any suggestions?

Benchmarking 2D performance with a quantitative method is a joke. If the picture looks sharp and the color is good then the 2D performance is great. When the picture is fuzzy and the color washed out then it sucks.

Oh yeah, the AGP port is in no way gonna help 2D performance. Hell, it hardly helps 3D performance. Every Matrox card I have ever seen has had excellent 2D performance. I doubt you G450's is poor, probably the best that can be had.

The best that can be had? The screen redraws more slowly than my old Voodoo Banshee. Every time the screen redraws while audio is playing, I get a mountain of static feedback. I can't use Cakewalk right now with this thing in the system.

If this is the best than can be had, then I just bought a $125 paperweight. This card sucks.
