I want to hook up my xbox and tv both to my home theatre reciever for 5.1 surround sound. Here is the tv I've got:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824210016

I need to know what cables I will need to hook both the xbox 360 and the tv up to the reciever to support 5.1 surround sound. Here is the HTIB i bought:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-EQbs49K36b...-bin/ProdView.asp?g=37600&I=580HTS590S

could you provide me with the info as to which two cables I will need to buy and possibly a link to them on a site such as bestbuy or circuit city? will this sytem provide decoding to support TRUE surround sound to the 360?

Links are broken

EDIT: guess it doesn't really matter though...

From what I'm seeing of the crutchfield link, it's an Onkyo 5.1 set?

You need to get a cable that has a digital optical (or coax, but I think the 360 cables are optical) output on it.

For the TV, what is your source for your material? Cable? Antenna? Dish?

EDIT2: I forgot, does the 360 come with component cables already? The component output cable from the 360 has digital optical built into it. You'll just need a toslink cable to hook up from that output to a digital input on your receiver.

If a game has DD / DTS output, the toslink cable will be able to pass this information on to your receiver for decoding = yeah, if the game is capable of outputting surround, you'll get surround. I don't have a 360 so I'm not sure how surround output from the system works as far as if games support 5.1 output. If it's going to work though, this is the way it will.

Do you have a cable box for those inputs or are you using the tuner in the TV?

I have a cable box with hdtv support for like 20 channles and the rest regular cable. I connect the tv with the red, green, and blue hdtv cables, and the white/yellow audio cables...same with my xbox 360
