I just bought a Velodyne DLS-3500R for my home theatre. I have an older Onkyo receiver HT-R330 that was came in a home theatre in a box setup with a passive sub. The receiver has speaker wire outputs for a sub as well as a RCA output marked "Subwoofer Out". The sub I purchased has the LFE input on the back. I can only get base from the speaker wire. I don't know if there is an option somewhere in the settings to turn on the LFE or if the LFE abd "Subwoofer Out" are different.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.

Does your receiver have an On Screen Display, or do you have to do all the setup through the text displayed on the front of the receiver?

I can try to help you figure this out, but I want to know how you can work with it first.

If the speaker wire output is working and the passive sub works, that probably means that the receiver is set up to work with a sub now (crossovers set and such).
I haven't looked up your receiver model yet, but when you say you're using a passive sub, does that mean that the sub is hooked directly up to the back of the receiver, or do the Left Front and Right Front speaker wire pairs pass through the sub on their way to the front speakers?

Is the new powered sub set to on? Is the gain turned up?

I will now commence some research...

Oh.... http://www.eu.onkyo.com/de/ir_img/15286190_18762e5669.jpg

Is that what the back of your receiver looks like?

I don't see a "subwoofer out" on the receiver.
What I do see is a place to hook up speaker wire to hook up a passive sub (what you were using before).
I also see a subwoofer INPUT in the DVD section (for hooking up a player that outputs multichannel analog).

The new sub has speaker wire inputs on it as well, is that correct?

If so, just use that (if it's working).

While you're playing around with settings, have you attempted to level match your speakers, apply distance settings, set the crossover, and whatever other basic controls the Onkyo has?

You are right..that is a DVD input... D:

Well just another reason I need to update my receiver. And I have level matched everything..the sub is WAY down so I don't blow away my speakers. I'm slowly trying to build a new system. Next for me is a center channel and new receiver (Onkyo 607 seems to be the best for my budget). Anyways thanks for the help!
