Need help, guys...

I have used INTEL processors for some years now but all the great reviews about the Mobile Athlons have me convinced to go back to AMD. The processor will be the Mobile Athlon XP 2600+. Question is, what Mainboard? I want to overclock, and I want all the bells and whistles! Has to have SATA as well. Thanks for your help.

Just like the good old days, Asus & Abit 🙂

I like the ABIT. ASUS, I don't know... Right now I am RMAing an ASUS because their "Tech Support" is virtually non-existent. E-mailed them a question repeatedly and still no answer. It's on its way back to NEWEGG.

OK, what about the

SOYO SY-KT600 Dragon Ultra Platinum, or the

GIGABYTE GA-7N400 Pro2 ???

Thanks for the help...

I will depart and say DFI ultra infinity. Passive NB, cheaper, OC's more...many report 250+FSB.. Same board as thier $160 lanparty but $70 cheaper without all the kiddy garbage and colors.

Looks interesting... Must do more research...

There are a number of great boards out there, with remarkable features.
But for a rock solid motherboard with that same feature set the Abit NF7S really can't be beat.

I don't personally know anyone who dislikes this motherboard.

Abit NF7-S. And nobody dislikes it, Silverback, because there doesn't seem to be anything to dislike about it. Also, Jalapeno, if you buy any other board besides an NF7 or an A7N8X, you can't change the multi on a mobile above 12x or 12.5x.

Looks good to me so far after all the recomendations from you guys and my own research. The A7N8X does look somewhat "whimpy" to me though... I currently run a P4 2.53 on an ABIT IT7 MAX2, so I am an ABIT fan already. Anyway, does anyone use a SOYO SY-KT600 Dragon Ultra Platinum, or the GIGABYTE GA-7N400 Pro2?

Thanks so far!

If you want a mobile Barton, you can either buy an nForce2 chipset mobo, or wish you had.😉

NONE of them have show to have an operational PCI/AGP lock. It was on the Anandtech home page.

i've tried these three nforce2 boards:

abit nf7-s
asus a7n8x v2.0
dfi lanparty ultra400

out of all these they all seemed like solid boards
but i had my best experiences with the abit board
the dfi board's bios corrupted after a few days so i took it back
the asus board wasn't that bad but abit is more for overclockers and enthusiasts in my opinion these days and the nf7-s shows it

also you might wanna check out abit's new an7 nforce2 motherboard
it has a few changes over the nf7-s and new features for overclockers

A lot of people are having issues with the DFI's. Check out the forums at amdmb.com. I would highly recommend the Abit NF7-S. I haven't used the Asus, but I have only heard good things about it.

As for the other boards, I would stay away form the Via chipsets. I have had nothing but bad luck with them. If your going Athlon XP stick with an NForce 2 board.

That article didn't concern Athlon XP's or their socket A chipsits whatsoever.
