Well heres the story... Im trying to apply for a job at Starbucks. Im sixteen and never worked before. So I picked up and Application and i've filled out most of it but on the back side it asks for former employers; I've never worked before so i dont know what to put. And for references... same problem, I dont know who to put as a reference. I really need a job and Starbucks is the only place i can work at because its extremely close to my home. Well I hope you guys can help an unemployed teenager who wants to be employed. 🙂 TIA

put your parents friends as references, and previous jobs? you dont have any! so just put n/a dont fill it out. i was doing the exact same thing, but then i decided not to work there (terrible location, bad people, etc).

good luck!

As for references, have you done any sort of work at all, even volunteer work, yard work, wash cars, babysit, anything. Have you worked for anyone in your neighborhood? Anyone that you can think of that you have done work for, ask them if you can use them as references.

Fill out the app, do the best you can.

Good luck. 🙂

Have you ever done odd jobs for neighbors? Yardwork? Anything of that sort? If so, consider asking if you can put them down as refrences. They will understand that you are young and won't have any prior employers.

Good luck!

EDIT: damn, lookingglass, you beat me... 😉

Be polite, keep in touch with StarBucks, contact them in a week, after you've applied, it helps to let them know you are interested in the job.

wow ... Quick responses 🙂 .. thanks for your advice everyone....
Another question... it asks for position desired, location desired, and salary desired. Im not sure what to write. I dont care about which position i get. What about the Location desired.. what do i put for that? shouldnt it be the starbucks location where i want to work at? and for Salary desired.... is negotiable okay?
Oh yeah one more thing... should i attach a resume?
Lol sorry for all these lame questions.. im just freaking out about it cause i need to turn it in tomorrow after school.

I got my first non-technical job (night stocking at a grocery store) because I applied and was the first to call back (after two days). The manager hadn't had time to look at the applications, but asked me to come in because I called...

I think I listed some neighbors or teachers and my girlfriend's father as references. I'm not sure any non-technical job ever called my refs or ran background checks on me.

Back in my day I'm not sure Starbucks existed, but I think that'd be a pretty good first job.

Starbucks career paths

You probably want to put barista for desired position if you want to be making coffee. But open would be good if you don't care at all about what you want to do there.

Put down the store that you're interested in for location.

I'm not sure which would be best to put for desired salary. I've heard that negotiable is bad to put down in general, but I think that would be better than putting something down that's significantly higher than they pay.

Good luck!

You don't need a resume, it's your first job.

Just fill it out carefully and neatly and HONESTLY. For pay and positions desired, put negotiable. They'll understand it's your first job and you're going to start at minimum wage no matter what in all likelihood.

k thanks for more advice guys ... lol .. i heavent turned it in yet... still trying to aquire refernces 🙂 but tomorrow is the day i turn it in

Thanks again guys/gals..

Wait about 3-6 days, and call back. Tell them you put in an application and would be interested in working there and see what they say.

When you're in HS and getting a job with little/no work experience, initiative like calling them back will show them that you are really interested and will help you get the job.

Well... haha update..... they havent called yet ... I called last friday and one of the employees told me that the boss hasnt looked at the application yet
How long should i wait for the phone call? 2weeks?
