Need help getting laptop's monitor port to work

I was trying to plug a projector into a monitor port on an IBM T20 laptop to project the laptop screen. The projector operates correctly, but is not picking up the laptop's screen. I've tried plugging in a second monitor to the laptop's monitor port, and the monitor does not respond. Is the port on the laptop broken or is this a software/driver issue?

This may sound silly, but have tried telling the laptop to send a signal to that port? It's generally something like fn/f7.(function/f7) The button will say CRT/LCD on it. There are usually three settings: LCD only, projector only, or both. You may also have to make sure to enable multiple monitor support in the video properties.
