Need help getting generic memory to work

I got my Abit AN8 Ultra setup with my 3200+ but i've got a bit of a problem. The memory Newegg sent me was the wrong type of Crucial 3200 so I can't get dual channel to work. So I have to RMA that stick back which will leave me with 1 stick of 512mb. Here is where I run into problems. I have a stick of Elixir 512mb 2700 memory that ran fine in my last board with my good stick of Crucial 512 3200. But for some reason the Abit board dosen't like the 2 sticks and will cause the board to beep and causes the system to lock up. I do a fair amount of gaming and would really like 1gig of memory so I'd like to try and get the stick of Elixir to work, my question is if I overclock the stick of Elixir to PC3200 do you think it would stop locking up or if I underclock the stick of Crucial would that work? Here is a link to the specs of each stick of ram.

Elixir (pdf format)

Crucial

I'm a NOOB when it comes to overclocking, especialy memory so as much explination would be appreciated. Thanks.

u shouldn't use 2 different memory brands in the system let alone different speeds. both should be PC3200 or PC2700 if you plan on running dual channel. just wait for newegg to send you back working replacement Crucial 512mb.

yes i know this. I ordered a stick of Crucial PC3200 from Newegg but it wasn't the same so it won't run DC. I want to put the generic Elixir back in until Newegg sends me the right stuff back. Im not trying to run DC with it, I just want 1gig of RAM. As of right now the board doesn't like the 2 different sticks. IT causes lock ups. I'm just trying to find a way for it to be stable till Newegg ships the new stick of Crucial.
