Hi,

My sister is looking to get her first credit card and I can't seem to find anything that I think would be good for her...

The limit does not really matter but I want her to get something that does not have a monthly/yearly charge and does not have an activation fee of any kind... from what I have found it is tought to get your first card without one of these options...

Here is a little info to help you understand what she is looking for...

She is 19, worked at her job for over a year and makes under $10,000 a year. She is not in school therefor she does not qualify for a student card. She lives with parents and drives there vehicles... she has no credit at all yet...

Can someone help me help her get her credit line started?

Please let me know what you know

Thanks

have your parents co-sign for one... after six months of good, ontime payments she will be able to get her own card.

good luck... btw: requests such as this belong in the mod sponsered 'i wanna' thread.

bankrate.com has a whole section

eg: http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/cc/20020726a.asp?prodtype=cc

Building a credit profile
You'd be better off applying for a secured credit card instead. With secured cards, a cardholder makes a savings deposit in exchange for a credit line.

The interest rates and fees on secured cards tend to be lower than those charged on unsecured credit cards targeted toward people with poor or no credit.

etc....

I agree this doesn't belong here, but since it is...

I can only tell you how I started to build my credit up, worked great.

1. Went to JCPenny's applied for CC, they accept anyone, I think I started with a $100-$300 limit
2. Use the JCPenny's card and pay off every month
3. Open a checking account with an ATM Visa/MC
4. Go into Ciruit City and apply for a CC, back then you were approved if you had at least 1 dept. store card and 1 MC or Visa, use your ATM Visa/MC # as a regular card
5. Eventually after using these cards you (your sister) will start getting pre-approved offers in the mail

& after 6-12 months she will have her own card, low rate, no anual fee, and a credit history
