I need to move a computer and the ethernet cable is stuck in the NIC (built into MB). I've tried to pull as hard as I dare and it won't budge. I see the MB bending quite a lot under the strain, and nothing will move. Any ideas on how to get it out?

The cable must stay - I cannot keep it plugged in.

Are you pushing down on the little release tab as you pull the cable out? (Gotta ask) If so, possibly the release tab is broken and isn't really releasing the latch. Get a paper clip and unbend it. With the PC unplugged, use the clip to push inside and down on release tab as you pull the cable out. Wiggle if necessary. Works every time.

you are supposed to hit the little clasp towards the cable to release the cable, just like a phone.

Funny guys. ;)

The paperclip broke. Do you think that I should drive home and get a small flat screwdriver? Maybe thats a good excuse to do less work... Or do you have any other ideas?

Any small, flat object that will fit in there will do. Tip of a knife, penpoint, etc.

Bingo, use the tip of a knifeto catch the edge of the clip.

The other end goes through the wall, up one floor, to the locked server room.

I was having such a good day until this. In fact, I even was selected as a winner of several prizes including free info about Pres. Bush and free AOL for 1000 hours. But now, I'll use this as an excuse to go home for tools.
