Need help getting AIGLX on Radeon M6

Hi, I'm new to linux.

I'm using openSuSe 10.3 GNOME and my laptop has an ATI Mobility M6 LY integrated graphics card.

I think it is the source of Compiz Fusion not working. That is, Compiz uses NONE of the effects. Also, it is VERY slow, much slower than it should be. 5 fps on a Nintendo 64 ROM is not normal.

I think I found the root of the problem. It defaults to the 8.47 drivers, which have no AIGLX support for my Radeon M6. 8.40 does, however it is greened out and when I select the radial button it installs it, but when I go to check it is on 8.47. What does this mean?

I think it might be greened out because you're using the newest kernel and you're trying to install a kernel module that's compiled for an older kernel. The newer ATi drivers should not be breaking your Compiz support (btw OpenSUSE uses XGL, not AIGLX). Perhaps compile the latest drivers from ATi's website (you'll need gcc, make, and kernel-source afaik)?
