I need a new graphics card i currently have a AMD Athlon IIx4 640 processor 3.0ghz. With currently 4.0Gb of RAM but planning to get 8.0Gb. Would be willing to spend $80-$120 if need be.

graphics card:ATI Radeon HD 5450 PSU: 350watt atx powersupply Resolution:1980x1080
thanks but the exact power supply needs to be known. look on the label and see what it says. hopefully it has a brand name and you need to look to see how many amps the 12v can make. it should be clearly marked. and is this a pre built oem pc?

really? you have to go out of your way to even find a 350 watt psu. all the major name brands usually start off at least 380 or 430 watts or more for atx psus.

what is 261? is that the max wattage that is listed for the 12v line. is that what the psu says or did you just add the numbers together because you don't do that if it has more than one 12v rail. also you still did not list the brand name.

sorry im not tech savvy at all it says diablotek 350 watt atx power supply
yeah that is an awful power supply and is not even as good as many 250 watt power supplies. at best it could only make about 14 amps aka 168 watts on the 12v line in real world conditions even when brand new. I personally would not trust it at all for any gpu upgrade. your friend could have spent 15 bucks more and gone with quality name brand psu in the first place that would meet your needs.

toyota, being a little rough, aren't you?

moemoe, the best card for you would probably be the hd7750 or the gtx650. Either will work just fine with your power supply. Just do not attempt to use a video card that requires a pcie power connector, and do not overclock any of your components.

go ahead and do what termie says. have fun replacing your parts after that cheap psu fails at some point. that psu is only rated for 18 amps on the 12 line at 30 C. that means real world about 14-15 amps is all that overrated psu can deliver when new at realistic temps. 90-95% of the power needs to come from those 168 watts.

7750 50 watts
640 cpu 80 watts
rest of the system 25-30 watts

and really that is below the TDP of those parts so they could use even more.

hmm that psu that cheap psu with cheap internals right ats its realistic limits. how long do you think it will last with being pushed hard and degrading quickly. 6 months maybe a year?

I would not do it.

It appears that your power supply outputs 18 amps on the 12 volt rail, which translates to 216 watts. It's a very outdated design equivalent to a modern 250W power supply, which is why it was very important for toyota to ask you all these questions. It will be at its limit powering your 95w CPU and a 75w video card, but it should work.

as I mentioned though it will not make those 18 amps at realistic temps. those cheap psus get away with 30 C ratings which is not realistic. jonnyguru himself said when you see cheap psu with 30C rating to go ahead and count on getting just 75% of its rated amps. so I was being generous as that would only be 13.5 amps. not to mention that cheap psus degrade quicker.

I think the 7790 would be within the power limits of this PSU (90W TDP). It's within the price range too (if you can find a good deal).

That 75% number is a bit cautious. I've run cheap power supplies at load before. I've also ran an i5 at high OC with two 7950s OCed on an OCZ 600W power supply, which everyone seems to think is going to blow up.

You could always buy a used PSU. You can find something like the Corsair HX 620 on Ebay for around $30. I agree that you wouldn't want to keep your current PSU. When they go the have a tendency to take other components with them.
