Need help from foodies - where to find edible feathers?

Hot new date and I have been enjoying chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and the like. I found some yummy-looking dark caramel sauce and have the idea that "tar and feathers" would be a nice surprise.

Any ideas for edible feathers?

I've done fondant feathers for cakes, but that would be too heavy. Cutting some out of rice paper or wafer paper? Thoughts?

Thank you.

I can't remember what it's called but you can drizzle a melted sugar concoction onto a flat surface, and when it releases, it holds its shape. You could make feathers that way.

EDIT: Spun sugar?

You could go the fluffy down route and use cotton candy. Not sure that would work with caramel though.

Good thoughts - cotton candy is a type of spun sugar.

Working with hot sugar is trickier than I want to deal with at this point.

Maybe getting some bagged pre-made cotton candy, rolling it flat with a rolling pin, and cutting shapes sorta like feathers? Will try.

If cartoons have taught us anything, it is that feathers on lips -- which in this case would be plumage on the labia -- means the cat ate the canary, i.e., swallowed the bird, and not it's oral intercourse opposite. :awe:

Kudos to the OP, but the idea of putting sugar (though I suppose it's sugar free in this case) near certain special areas just sounds like a poor choice.

If it doesn't want to hold the shape, you can try misting water onto it to partially dissolve it.

"another experimental cake!

I wanted to experiment using wafer paper for cakes when it was all the craze, but it a different way.

So I worked out how to make feathers out of the wafer paper and fixed them to floristry wires and made an edible feather wreath for around the cake (well.........edible except for the floristry wire)

I also made a tiny dragonfly on top out of swarovski crystals and tiny wafer paper feather wings"

Tried rolling out and cutting bagged cotton candy. Would have been best if the cotton candy were white, but it was the multi-color stuff. I tried some with the caramel syrup, over ice cream, it tastes great - I recommend it.

Then I tried some edible wafer paper, available from the craft store in the wilton cake decorating department - that's what they use for those cakes where they put a photograph on it. Cut paper into feather-sized triangles, curled and feathered the edges. Ding, ding, Winner! Doesn't taste as yummy as the cotton candy but that's not the point.

Headed out for date soon. Will let you know how it goes. On second thought, no I won't.

picture of a cake with wafer paper feather decoration - not like my feathers, but pretty http://cakecentral.com/gallery/68579

Salacious details, copiously illustrated, urgently demanded!

Hold nothing back, we're social scientists and require details on a granular level for our research.

Dare we hope for pics? They elucidate where mere words fail.

It was a HUGE success. It did look really funny, especially the feathers. A wonderful and memorable night together :p .

Pics and details?? Don't they have rules against that here :) ?
