My CPU and secondary fans turn on and off too often. Both fans always turn on at the same time and usually last for about 30 seconds - 1.5 minutes. In just 7 minutes, both fans turn on 5 times and each times lasts at least 30 seconds. But the most annoying thing is that both fans have these high, coarse frequencies/pitch that are very irritating. Basically, they sound like an old hair dryer with all the whining but not that bad. Just simply turning on Windows Media Player (with visualization off) or surfing the Internet is enough.
The laptop is already 11.5 months and I have about 9 days of warranty left.
My question is that is your Averatec 3150 quiet most of the time? Do the fans have those high and coarse frequencies generated by the motors? I heard later revisions of the series are much quieter, but mine manufactured on 9/2003.
Also, my LCD flickers slightly at the lowest setting (dimmest). I can see the screen gets a little darker than back to normal than darker. This doesn't always happen. This is especially true at the lower right corner. Is this normal with all LCD/laptop screens?
I'm planning to RMA the laptop for the one final fix before my warranty expires, but I'm not sure whether I have valid reasons. So please help me out ASAP.
