I bought a Philips Expanium EXP103 personal MP3/CD player and hooked it up to my deck via the car kit. Whe I have the faders and balance set to all four speakers, meaning that all speakers should be producing sound, only the front two speakers produce sound. Since the bigger speakers are in the back and handle most of the bass, the music sounds like crap this way. However, when I set the balance to only produce sound from either the left or right sides, the music sounds much better. But this way, the music sounds crappy to anyone sitting on the other side of the car. This happens only with the CD/MP3 player, as the radio and casstte playback is normal. If it helps, I have a '93 Intrepid with stock deck and speakers.

The car kit basically consists of a cassette adapter and a power plug for the cigarette adapter. The cassette adapter is connected to the line out on the CD player.

in my experience, the casette adapters are always POS's and the head is off center or whatnot, only using the front two speakers..

time for a cd/mp3 deck!
