I'm taking a public speaking class this summer. Unfortunately, unlike the other night classes I have taken, this one is largely populated by people still in their teens that may or may not have reached puberty yet.
For our first project, we were stuck in groups. We are to pick a topic and do a multi-part presentation on it, each spending five minutes on our section. The instructor told us that he does not care about content, but rather the presentation itself. His statement was, "You do enough research during the regular school year, I don't want you having to do more than fifteen minutes of research at a time for this class." My partners in the group (three male, one female) took this to mean that he did not want us doing any research at all, so are bent on picking a topic we can talk about without having to do any research. Thus far, the only ideas they are amenable to are talking about their college majors "I major in underwater basket weaving because it prepares me for a career flipping burgers," or how they "deal with the stress of college life," aka "I drink lots of beer on weekends."
Does anyone have any good ideas on speech topics we might be able to use?
Preferably, these ideas would need to appeal to retarded monkeys or children suffering from acute Attention Deficit Disorder.
