I have a friend that is trying to set up a small business selling something out of his home. They are rather poor and are trying to find cheapest way to get a presence on the web. I recommended that they purchase a web site name that fits their company and then use something to forward people going to their web site to my 5 MB that I have thru my cable modem provider. I thought www.no-ip.com could accomplish this but now I'm not sure. I've been trying to dig around no-ip but get rather confused there.

What I am looking for is a service that will forward someone going to www.smallcompany.com to http://home.cfl.rr.com/myname. Is this possible?

Here is the cheapest way. Put up the site on Geocities, go to Zone Edit to forward to Geocities and run in cloacking mode Here is a example, go to
Link
Another way is to get your domain name at domain monger they will forward it free and use dynu.com to forward to your home server. If you are going to use a windows server be sure and patch it before putting it up. I would recommend using Apache server, download PHPtriad and install the server.

Does a site at Geo Cities give me an IP? That is the problem with what I was proposing with my 5 free meg at my cable modem provider...I get an address but no IP. Are there any services that will forward a purchased domain name to another domain name...vs an IP?

I use RegisterSite for my domain forwarding. They support forwarding, cloaking and pointing. There are probably cheaper providers... but they were the best/cheapest for .ca domains.
