i signed up dsl last month (from psn.net) and they sent a person to help me to install dsl modem 2 weeks ago. everything goes fine in the begining (although it is only a little bit faster than 56 k modem , i am fine with it) then things went wrong. now i can surf with my 28.8 k modem much faster than using my dsl. i tried to contact their techincal support , but the phone could never go through no matter how long i wait. so can u guys think if there is any reason my dsl is so slow? ^)^

It might just suck, or have something configured wrong...
I'd keep trying to call.
Try the sales number it usually will get you in faster...

when i first got dsl i was getting terrible speeds, even after the tweeks. irronicly it just so happened to be the 4 month mark when i back up my computer and do a clean install. after doing this and then doing the tweeks my speed was outragous (900-1.2 mbits/sec). i am not saying that you need to reformat your drive but if your registry has conflicting settings you could loose speed- good luck

I'm not a big fan of internal DSL modems. If yours is internal, that can be the problem. IRQ conflicts, driver issues, and slow bus speeds(usually due to irq conflicts or other configuration problems) can all be factors in making the connection slower. I would always try to go external because then you can always test your connection using peer to peer ethernet tests to decide if your ISP sucks or if it's your own system that's hosed.

Have you ever run any of those Internet speed boost utilities, you know the ones that are intended for speeding up your dial-up connection? That's a common problem for people moving from dial-up to cable or DSL. Those utilities change network settings in your registry to optimize for dial-up, but they can slow your cable/DSL connection to a crawl. You can either reinstall windows or change the settings back manually, using those sites that BT7990 gave as a reference. I had this problem when I first got MediaOne cable modem. It was real disappointing for the first day or two until I figured that out.
