My friend is going to purchase a computer and doesn't trust me to build it for him eventhough i've already successfully built numerous machines for numerous people, but anyway, both of these are packard bell computers. (EWW)
Both cost 999? - All I need to know is WHICH ONE IS FASTER?

I think the prescott is - the non-prescott is running at 3.06ghz which means a 533mhz bus.

On the other hand, I wouldnt recommend either, as there totally bottlenecked by the graphics card. Unless he's not a heavy gamer.

I had friends who used to do that. Fact is no matter what you tell him he will probably still do something else. I stopped giving free advice even to friends since they always seemed to assume I was their 24/7 tech support after that. Packard Bell as a brand no longer exists here in the US. When it did it was widely known as the worst junk you could buy. Only idiots who had no clue whatsoever bought it. I wouldn't even work on them thats how much I hated them. I used to even have people ask what i thought of Packard Bell and I would tell them their junk. Then they would go out and buy them anyway and a few months later start asking me to fix all the problems. I would tell him if you know enough to decide that I am not worthy of building it for you then you obviously don't need my advice so your on your own.

By the way I think both systems are trash using that vid card. That vid card doesn't deserve anything more that a 2.4a

Tell him that if he wants to play games he should look elsewhere. If it's just for general use, tell him he doesn't need a machine as fast as either of those, and could save some ???

Well in answer to your question the prescott processor rig is faster. But its good parts going to waste with that gcard, get a 9800 PRO along with that and itll be an awsome rig. Could wait for the new cards but some have said that the 9800 PRO wont come down in price for quite a while and unless you got an extra $500 lying aroung for either of nvidias or atis new card 9800 PRO is your best bet.

If he does that then get the game Farcry and lend him it so you can laugh when it runs like a turtle with no legs :D

Hey akseli

Your friend would be dumb to go with either of those systems... I mean a Radeon 9200? Blech! :disgust:

We still get Packard Bell here in South Africa, and they are known as the biggest load of junk available! I mean the sort of spec you get for a particular price is not worth it at all! Why don't Packard Bell use the 800 FSB Northwood in that other system you list? The 533 FSB ones are getting somewhat long in the tooth. The Prescott would obviously be faster, having a higher FSB.

I don't believe in owning big brand PC's (except when it comes to laptops of course). It's much more fun building my own PC's, plus if I need to swap/upgrade a component then I can! No sending it in to some stupid tech centre, to have to wait a few days for something I can do in 2 minutes!

Granted, I know that not everyone possesses the know-how to build up their own systems. In that case, you have to be careful with what brand of PC you choose. Funnily enough, many PC's offered by the smaller PC shops, are often better value than some overpriced big brand thing.

I'd love to see your friend do some proper gaming, with either of those systems... :p
