Hi,

I am helping a friend put together a new system, and he has an ABit vp 6mb. We installed it with 2 Intel 1 gig pentium 3 processors, and Ecc memory. We got no video at all. So, we removed one of the CPU's and still no video. No beeps and only that Red LED is on. We pushed the power on, and the drive spins up but that is about all it does.

We already tried new video cards, reset cpus, memory chips and reset the cmos. When we turn it on, we can't turn it off again with the power switch and have to just unplug the power supply. I know that some people on this board have been having some type of similiar problems with this type of board. Can someone let me know if you ever fixed the problem or is it just a case of bad mb. Another thing that we checked is the thermistor seated in the cpu sockets and making sure that it wasn't broken or anything. Should we just get an RMA and replacement motherboard?

thanks for any help

I don't own that board, so I'm only going to give generic advice - most (all?) you will already have tried.

1. Keep it simple. Only one CPU, memory and video plugged in. No drives, floppy, sound, NIC, etc. This includes power cords. Your power supply may not be able to drive everything.
2. Try pressing the reset button. Too little power might cause the system to not boot initially, but can do it with a reset.
3. Check Keyboard connector - plugged into correct plug (not mouse). Keyboard is the one on the bottom when looking from above the board.
4. Check your video card. Try a PCI video card. The problem is that if the mother board is not aligned perfectly, then your AGP card may not seat quite right. If it is angled AT ALL THE SYSTEM WILL NOT BOOT. AGP card traces are layered one above the other so it shorts things out if angled. Make sure it looks flat in the slot.
4. Check your power switch connector to the board. Does the CPU fan spin up? If yes, and you still don't have video or beep, then your board is DOA. Sorry.

Good luck,
