Need help for a friend.. Can't log into windows, it seems the keys on keyboard have been changed

What is most likely the cause?
virus?
keyboard on the fritz?
user error? 😉

He is running WindowsXP (not sure which version, will find out)
He ran McAfee Virus, nothing found (not sure which version, will find out)
He ran Lavasoft Adaware and Spybot


Any suggestions?
 
And he's sober, right? 😀 Hehe... it does make you think of viruses as a possibility. Have your friend try the online scanners at TrendMicro and Panda if possible.

It's possible that the keyboard is shot, so try a different keyboard. If the original keyboard is USB, you can even try using it with a PS/2 adapter.
