Need help fixing shower spout

So those things fell off that separates the water to the tub or to the shower head. When I pull it up, it's suppose to stay in place. I fitted those 3 parts together, but the handle won't stay up when I pull it.

I assume you turned the water on? The water pressure holds it in place.

Umm, shower head or tub spout? They are different things.

The bad news is I don't recognize any of hte parts you have laid out.

Any possibility of getting some better pictures and maybe a more descriptive way they go together?

edit, is that gold thing just the decorative handle that goes on the long cylinder thingy?

Pretty sure olds is right. Put them back together, then run some water (decent flow, not just a little trickle), and pull it up. The water pressure holds it in place, until you push down on the handle, or turn off the water.
