need help fixing resolutioni in games

whenever i change my resolution from 640x480 to 800x600 in a game, i get an image size that's larger then my screen.
like in counter strike or tiberian sun, it displays the menu really big...beyond the size of my screen....and when i move my mouse to the edge of the screen it allows me to see the rest of the menu... how do i fix this? someone told me to install PowerStrip, so i did...but nothing happend after running it before the game...

I play the game also and have had no problems. In fact right now
my resolution is set at 1280 x 960, I have just opened the game
and tested it. Everything works great without a problem.

Do you have director x 8?

i'm on windows xp, so it should have the current version of dx8...
it's weird how i don't have this problem in win98se though...

You don't have a Radeon by any chance do you? I too noticed problems of this kind on occasion when changing resolutions. The only thing I can suggest is to change your resolution in the desktop first instead of doing it from the game.
