Need help finishing off my overclocking system (and im a newbie at oc'ing).

Hello,

I am going to be making a computer purchase coming up in about 3 weeks. I've decided to go with the A7N8X Deluxe motherboard and one of those famous 2100+ rev B processors. I plan to overclock it, but i'm a newbie at overclocking, so I need some help putting together the rest of my system. If anyone out there is willing to help fill in the blanks (keeping in mind that my number 1 priority is getting this puppy to overclock past 2.5GHz), it would be appreciated. Here is my system so far.

(Motherboard) - Asus A7N8X Deluxe
(Processor) - Athlon XP 2100+ (Rev B)
(Video Card) - Radeon 9700 128MB PRO
(Memory) - ??????????????????????
(Hard Drive) - Maxtor 80GB 7200rpm w/ 8MB Cache
(Power Supply) - ?????????????????????
(Case) - Some sort of Koolance water cooled case
(OS) - Windows XP Professional

The problems i'm having deciding on is the memory. I want to get 4 sticks of 512MB, but what speed should I get that will work best with the processor? I plan to upgrade eventually to a barton w/ 333mhz bus. The case, I want a water cooled case. I'm thinking of one of the Koolance cases since i'm a newbie to water cooling. Any objections? 🙂 And what kind of power supply would be best? I'm assuming since I would be running 5 fans, water cooling, two hard drives, 3 CD-roms (CD Burner, DVD Burner, DVD-Rom) and overclocking, that I would need a pretty high power supply. Would an Antec 550W true be enough? I really would like to get this processor from 1.73GHz up to 2.5GHz. That is my goal. Do you guys think I could achieve that with a setup like this? And if I did, what kind of memory would I need to beable to keep up with those speeds, as I probably would want to o'c my memory too!

Thanks,

i recommend 2 packs corsair TWINX 512mb 3500=2GB
i would recommend an Antec truepower 430 or 550 for your rig
as for your selection of water cooling, i recommend dangerden but koolance is ok

Antec or Enermax PSU (~400W)

As to the RAM, most mobos will OC the best with a single stick of RAM. As you increase the number of memory
slots you are using, normally, you will reduce your ability to OC stabily.

(Motherboard) - Epox 8RDA+
(Processor) - Athlon XP 2100+ (Rev B)
(Video Card) - Radeon 9700 128MB PRO
(Memory) - Two 256MB Corsair XMS PC3200 CAS2 memory modules
(Hard Drive) - Western Digital Special Edition 120GB 7200rpm w/ 8MB Cache
(Power Supply) - ENERMAX EG465P-VE(FMA). 431W Power supply
(Case) - Some sort of Koolance water cooled case
(OS) - Windows XP Professional

For a serious overclock, I would go with Epox 8RDA+. Abit NF7-S, a close second. If ya have the extra dough, spend the extra few dollars to increase the size of the hard drive. Western Digital Special Edition is sure to impress.

All the nforce2 boards that i'm aware of have no more than 3 memory slots. And 512MB is plenty for what appears to be a gaming rig. Actually, if I could afford 2GB of memory, then I would bump the watercooling idea and get a Prometeia.

Yeah, i too was interested in TWINX. But, it turns out that Corsair TWINX memories are primarily for those who don't want to play with settings in the BIOS yet still achieve optimum performance or folks looking for the guarentee of certain timings. I would suggest ya save yer money and get the common XMS PC3200 CAS2 memory module.
