<P>I have a friend that needs a notebook for college. She has $1500 to spend and plans on using it for downloading music, doing homework, and going online. I told her to look at Dell, but I don't know too much about notebooks so thats why I come here. She just needs something thatll last her for her 4 years of college. She doesn't want a Celeron, but might get one if she needs to. I don't want WinME, so if anyone can find somewhere that has Win98se or Win2k, that'd be really nice! Thanks for the help.

My sister just got a brand new Dell Inspiron 8100 - i opened it when it came, cause she's not here. Talk about one sweet laptop! The screen is gorgeous. It cost $3000 fully loaded, but that's cause we bought the 1.13 ghz, with 256 megs of ram (she didn't want to upgrade it separately), office xp, win2000 with xp coupon, 20 giger and a 3 year warranty including their completecare (for drops and spills, probably unnecessary but since grandma was buying, why not?). Play around with the configurers, and if you can get the 15" Ultra XGA screen (1600x1200). Even if you have to settle for a slower speed proc, and upgrade the RAM yourself, it is worth it 🙂

oh yeah, check the small business section also and compare what you get for the amt of $
