Someone locally is desperate to sell this laptop from around '09 for $100.

Here's what they are telling me it has:

Mobile AMD 64 Processor 4000+
2.5ghz
1gb RAM

I've googled "review" and "specs" but can't seem to find any website who's done a write-up on this model. Can anyone else add anything to the conversation by chance? Worth $100? It would be used to replace my outdated Dell Inspiron 6000 from about 2003-4 so I know it already is faster.

Thanks.

edit: ugh slightly old thread, hopefully this still helps

is your inspiron 6000 the base model? or does it have an upgraded CPU?

a somewhat helpful thread
summary:
pentium M 2GHz ~ athlon 64 2.4GHz
pentium M is more efficient and runs cooler (thus is likely also quieter)

(doubtful) if you have a pentium M 2.13 in your inspiron 6000, the athlon 64 will not be faster

otherwise you have to consider if portability, or performance is what you want

if you want performance, there are lots of core 2 duo refurb desktops going around for close to $100

and you can sometimes find stuff like the dell 11z with i3, or some AMD c-50 or e350 for <$300
if you're just web-browsing or streaming videos (though extended typing can be a chore) you can even find tablets with Tegra 2 (dual-core) like the samsung tab 7 or the up and coming google nexus 7 Tegra 3 (quad-core) for $200

i certainly wouldn't buy a mediocre single core to replace a somewhat slower single core nowadays (you won't even be getting HD GPU decode on those old notebooks). though if you have a low-end inspiron 6000 you'll probably have either 256mb or 512mb RAM. upgrading the ram to 2x512mb ddr2 will improve responsiveness and could be a cheap fix.
