need help finding matching ram!

I made the mistake of buying 2 GB of Ram when I built this system instead of 3-4 which would be ideal. I'm am pretty broke right now so I'm looking for the cheapest upgrade possible. If I can find 2 x 512MB sticks of A-Data that match the specs of my 1 GB sticks would that be the best thing to go with? Also, will running 3 GB like that result in a noticeable performance loss. This ram is pretty speedy right now I run it at 4-4-4-11 w/Trd of 7.

Since you are talking about 2 different sized modules it is not likely you will be able to easily match them. If you really shop around, you can buy 2gb kits for under $50 and 4gb kits for well under $100. If you don't mind MIRs you can get great deals and not have to worry with mixing 2 different sizes of memory. In some cases, this can be problematic.

Would it take you very long to save up the $50-100 for a 2GB or 4GB kit? I'm with Yellowbeard, going with 2x512MB isn't the ideal option here, although it would work.

What are you doing that your RAM is bottlenecking you on?

well just seems to me from what I read 3-4 GB makes a big difference in Vista in overall smoothness of the OS. I can't say my RAM is slowing me down now but I'm only playing UT3 and a couple other games that don't use all that much memory. Yeah I would save up for a 2 X 2 GB set but I really wanted to keep my timings.
