Need help finding: File manging software for school work

I have a domain i registered for school work in hopes of finding an open source software solution to manage my school work.

Problem: I lose and hate usb keys.
I would normally carry a usb key with me, but id almost always forget the key in the car, leave in my pc or something else retarded.

Potential solution:
I'd like to have a software or program let me save files from my computer to webspace via a browser interface so that i can access my school work from wherever i have a pc. I'd also like to have an option for password protection , since it is my own work.

Does anyone have any software in mind that may work out for me?

A search feature would be nice too.

I'm coming from emailing files back and forth via gmail.
 
I think sourceforge has a couple of PHP file managers, you might want to look into them. Next step up would be some form of collaborative software (such as TikiWiki or Egroupware), but those are heavy overkill.

Groupware seems cool but i agree, it maybe overkill. I'm actually setting this up for my gf and I. So things like an integrated calendar and contacts would be nice too. But i dont think we need a wiki LOL
