Hey this site seems to have some of the most thorough reviews on the net with comprehensive coverage so I though I would come to these forums for some help. I need some help finding a Athlong 64 board with either the Nforce 250gb or the K8t800 pro chipset. Just some boards you guys feel are the best out there so I can go check them out. Most preferably the Nforce 250GB because of its features and the single chipset makes for some clean oderly boards. Or if there is an awsome K8T800 pro with awsome performance.

I also need some info about ram at higher speed then pc3200 like pc 3500 or 3700. I think I got it because you have to up the FSB to match the ram but I'm not quite sure cause in some of the reviews they had to set hyper transport to 3x from 4x or something. A good review or explenation would be awsome. Also so far Im looking at either some OCZ 3500EB or 3700EB for one gig. If you could post some links to better ram, good reviews, sites with them I would appreciate it a lot.

Welcome to the Forums :) Are you planning to overclock? That's where the higher-than-PC3200 RAM is going to make itself worthwhile. If you're not going to overclock, then good PC3200 will be suitable for current A64's.

For boards, the one I'm waiting to see is the Asus K8N-E Deluxe. The goof-heads at Asus are still incubating the darn thing :frown:

Yeah I plan on overclocking atleast to the point of the memory operation. I want to get the max bandwidth at the best price I can. I might overclock it but I don't overlcock until I need to when the system is lagging behind games. Btw if I can get an Asus K8N-E Deluxe link to a preview that would be awsome.

There are no K8N-E Deluxe reviews or previews that I'm aware of. When there are, I'm sure this section of the Forums will have a thread showing where :D

Hi!

While there is no review or preview of the ASUS K8N-E Deluxe, at least none that I am aware of, you can see the board's specs here. For some reason the page isn't always visible. The same goes for the board being listed in ASUS' motherboard overview page. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it isn't.

Anyway, I'm also quite interested in this board, although I must admit that the MSI K8N Neo Platinum has also grabbed my attention. And apparently it will be released at a *very* competetive price.

Here is part of a post I made over in the Chaintech forum at PC Perspective ( formerly AMDMB.com )
I have been testing with the following RAM

All = 2 x 512 @ 8 - 4 - 4 -3 2.9 vdimm ( Auto timing )

Komusa Hyperam PC4200

HardcoreCooling PC4200

Adata PC4000

They will all run Memtest86 without errors at 255..

The Komusa stuff will do 260, but gets errors in test #5..

I'm suspecting the limit of the on-die memory controller is somewhere between 255 - 260..

It will be interesting to see if anyone can do higher...

I found out later that they would all do 260 with Memtest86 if I just used one stick...

Once I got into Win2000, Prime95 would only run for a few minutes without a rounding error, but 255 was stable..

There has been a lot of A64 RAM discussion in this thread also.. Athlon 64-really want it but......

The indications are that the higher priced PC3500 - 3700 stuff, with tighter timings have little effect on performance.. So you are apt ( most likely ) to do just as well with some of the bargain PC4200 that's only rated at 8 - 4 - 4 - 3 ....
I'd spend the extra money on something that will make a difference, like a better vid card or higher clocked CPU..

As for as mobo's, I have Gigabyte GA-K8NPRO ( NF3-150) , which has a lot of features and overclocks well, and am now testing a Chaintech VNF3-250 ( with the RAM as noted above ) , and it really performs well but is not as feature rich, but is priced pretty low..
