Our office needs to purchase a bunch of scanners, and i have no idea what model or brand i should look to.

It needs to scan drivers license, insurance card, 8.5x11 paper....and i'd like for it to have some dev software if possible so it can auto-name the file scanned and put it in a network location.

Desk space is at a premium so it needs to be very small. I dont work in the medical industry, but i think they use a tool that will do this in many places....anyone got any idea what brand/model i can look at?

TIA.

Beware, scanners designed for business use don't come cheap. I use a Canon P-150 because I needed a USB-powered portable scanner for work and it cost almost $300. And that was only for occasional use, I don't consider it rugged enough for daily scanning.

I would start by looking for "Sheetfed" or "Document" scanners. Fujitsu, Canon, Kodak are a few brands that come to mind. Expect to pay between $300-500 per seat. Any higher than that and you are probably purchasing more of a rapid scanner (for rapidly scanning tons of long multi-page documents, like in a law office or insurance company) than one intended for light/midrange individual use (front desk registrations, etc). Any less than that, and you're probably buying something that won't last very long.

Good luck.

that scanner is the same portable class as the canon p150. It isn't really designed for regular daily use, I wouldn't expect it to last very long.
its a no-go because it isnt TWAIN compliant. I did find a couple that will suit our needs though.
