What PSU's have a 24-pin main power connector? I just started building a friend's system using a P4 530 3GHz (775 pin CPU) and an ASUS P5DG1 mobo (which has a 24 pin power connector on it). Unfortunately, the PSU my friend bought only has a 20-pin power connector. I'm guessing the change in the connector size has something to do with the newer P4 cpu pin count or core? i've been to newegg.com and even manufacturer sites looking for 24-pin power connectors, but to no avail (if there is a specification i'm overlooking, it certainly doesn't tell me how many pins the connector has). anybody know what specification i'm looking for? or better yet, does anyone know what PSU i need? i'd like a preferred brand, like Antec or something. thanks...

24 pin mostly used by server boards, mine is a 24 pin that i used 24/20 adapter as my mobo needed a 20 pin.

newegg has enermax 24 pin PSUs

DONOT adapt a 20 pin psu to a 24 pin mobo

Seems as tho lots of newer power supplies (especially the modular ones) are coming with both 20/24 pin connectors/adapter.

thanks for all the useful information. that clears up a bit of my confusion. on the other hand, how am i to know which PSU's have a 20 pin or a 24 pin connector? it seems as though no manufacturers or retailers specifically state that information. is the information there and i'm just missing it? is it written another way (like maybe in the voltage specifications)?

btw blazer, thanks for the specific find . are there any other 24 pin PSUs made by brands i can trust?

http://www.newegg.com/app/View...tion=17-103-437&depa=0

http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/

this is a link to the one i have,it has a single 12 volt rail [not a dual rail] it has 36 amps across all three rails and allows room for expansion, the 24P in the title indicates it has a 24 pin connector, all brand name PSUs that have a 24pin connector also supply a 24/20 adapter [it is shown in the pics].
stay far away from a dual rail PSU,i have read many post that has suffered from a dual rail unit, one of the things that i like about NEWEGG is the fact that they provide many pics, any manufacture or seller that does not supply specs of a product have something to hide, experence and hands on use is hard to argue with although some do.
hope this helps / also use the PSU calculator in my link above

thanks blazer. now i have a much better idea what to look for and how to find it.

btw, you mentioned that 24 pin connectors are popular on server boards, yet the ASUS P5DG1 isn't really a server board. do all 915/925X mobos utilize the 24 pin connector?

No ,but 24 pin connectors at the mobo has added additional power leads,as todays performance demands more power there has to be improvments, this is a improvment.

i see it on the powerstream. are you sure the modstream has the 24-pin connector as well? it doesn't show it or a 20-to-24 pin adapter in any of the pictures at newegg.com or ocz.com.

Do you actually need a 20/24-pin adaptor... i plugged mine (20) into an EATX... and it seems to be running fine... i just looked at the voltage...

yes, well i just got an email from a friend that contained this link. it is information from Antec's website regarding 24 pin connectors. it also quotes directly from Intel that 20 pin connectors can be plugged into 24-pin headers on a motherboard so long as you leave pins 11, 12, 23, and 24 unconnected. i guess i don't need another PSU after all. thanks...

Cant think of any reason a MB manufacture would put a 24 pin connector on a MB when only a 20 pin is needed.

What are the other 4 pins used for ?
