Need help finding a non-tn 24 inch LCD

Hi guys.

I've been looking for months and I cannot find specs on most web sites regarding individual monitor types. They don't specify them...which leads me to believe they are probably TN's.

I cannot stand the way a TN changes colors if you are slightly off center and I'm not concerned with Ghosting. I have an Acer 24 inch at work (not sure which model) that looks terific at all angles so I'm sure it isn't a TN.

The idiots at Best buy, Circuit City and all other retail stores I've been to have no idea what I'm talking about...even when I show them how the monitor up on the shelf (that is listed as a 170 degree viewing angle) changes colors when you move 10-15 degrees off center (especially vertically). Talk about false advertising.

It seems to be getting harder and harder to find a non-TN 24 inch any more.

Does anyone know where I can find up to date, accurate specs on the latest monitors?

Everything that's listed with 170/160 or 160/160 is TN. Unless you have 176/176 or 178/178, it's a TN. If you have 5ms or 3ms or 2ms - it's a TN, if you have 8ms or 6ms, it's a *VA (or IPS). Keep in mind though that 24" TNs aren't that bad, I mean the viewing angles are way better than those of 19" or 20" TNs, my Sammy 245BW is way better than I thought it would be in this respect.

Well, I've been burned buying a highly rated monitor on-line twice (without seeing it in person).

What I have figured out is you have to actually see the monitor you intend to buy because as far as I can tell, none of the specs advertised are worthwhile. Whether it is the viewing angle, response time, contrast ratio, brightness etc. It's all meaningless marketing bull**** that I've learned to just ignore.

The only concrete thing I've found is to stay away from TN monitors...I don't care if they are (suposedly) faster and cheaper, the picture looks like crap unless you re sitting directly in front of it.

Unfortunatly, 95% of the affordable monitors out there are TN's. My work monitor is an Acer X241W that only cost $299 (Best Buy close-out). Too bad they don't make them any more.

Another buddy of mine picked one up to go along with his LG L246W, & aside from the massively thick bezel it uses (sux for dual displays side by side), the Soyo is a damn nice display as well.
