Hi all, im currently using Verizon DSL at 768down 128up ($50/mo) and im craving a LOT more upload bandwidth, preferrably 384k+. My problem?

The providers here suck bad. I can get:

Adelphia powerlink (they only offer a shared package according to their sales rep, no dedicated bandwidth like some providers).

Verizon which offers a 1500k/384k package at $70/month. My only problem with this is they require me to use a program called winpoet that i hear is buggy and requires you to connect to it. So you lose the "always on" connectivity of DSL.
Edit: I found out that winpoet is not a concern as my router supports PPPoE.

Stargate which works through verizon and offers the exact same packages with far worse tech support.

Can anyone help me find a provider for under $80/mo that can provide me with 1.5m down and 384 up or faster? I'm in Erie PA, and the phone # of a nearby store is (814) 838-2113 if you need a sample number. Ive looked around and this is all i could find :( hopefully someone here knows more than i do.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

You can get a new IP by resetting your modem.

;)

Seriously ... I'd say Verizon and throw a FreeSCO box in the way to hand the always-on bit. Their latest build 0.3.1 has PPPoE support for almost every provider.

FreeSCO looks pretty complex... is it easy to use?

verizon's new modem handles the PPPoE for you. Plus. there's a HD thread on a free upgrade to your service.

Current router is a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL 4 port.

I believe it does have PPPoE support.

So i wont need this software?

My only lasting question then is there any way i can get access to a cable provider other than Adelphia. Or is it like DSL as in i have to be near a "hub" in order to connect.

Im far more interested in haveing 3mb down and 384k up from cable :) but i can settle on 1500k/384k because i have PPPoE support.
