Need help figuring out the cost of a website

The plan is to have something similar to newegg only with a different product. (the actual product is not important)

We are already selling these and we feel there is a larger market for this type of thing. It would be much easier on us to just hand people a business card and have all of the inventory/ordering done online.

Basicaly I need how much it would cost to build and maintain this site. I am guessing there are a few KEY parts to this process but any advice/suguestions would be appreciated.

So far I need prices for:

1) Inital website design
2) Maintaining the site
3) Reiable server space to hold account info and site info
4) Security for the site (so people cant easialy get CC info and whatnot and to prevent hackers)
5) Realtime inventory program
6) Shipping stuff (Fedex and whatnot)

the warehouse is accounted for already. Inventory will be taken into account. We will only stock the most common parts. Secritary is under employees and if there just warehouse employees then there like $10-15/hr?

and where can I find info comparing the costs of stuff to get the best deal. I am quite new to having a website like this.
 
You could plug something together very quickly, and very reasonably priced. Most of the common things on the web (forums, picture gallery, online shopping cart, etc) have already been done, and are done very well.

You can put together a *very* professional website in little time. PM me if you would like more info.
 
I am looking for something both professional and secure. Security is # 2 on my list of needs so it is pretty high up there.
 
1) Depending on the complexity and if you want to have a custom built site, anywhere from $200 - $1000.

2) Cheap. It really is. Especially if you can update it yourself. If not, maybe $50 here and there?

4) SSL. Included in some 1and1 packages. Its not that expensive and really simple to use. $50. Otherwise security is needed in the site itself, which a good one should have taken care of. All of my sites do.

5) Should be included in the site no?

6) Shipping...well that depends on you. My sites simply intergrate the shipping costs with UPS and throws in an extra % or whatnot to the cost. You can do whatever you like.

Well, I could certainly do the graphics of a site that already has a template.. I can deliver professional, fast, beautiful and cheap designs. PM me if you're interested 😉.
 
I will definately let you know if I need help with that vegitto. I am toying around with photoshop myself and have some logos I really like.
 
the only reason I am shying away from prebuilt ones is I want control over the whole thing. If I dont like button A on the right I want to be able to move it.
 
check out something like stores.yahoo.com for an all inclusive service.
let them worry about security.
you set up the store one time, then add products and your done.

They may be a short term solution, but I wuoldn't use them long term. You'll be paying high bills each month to use the template that they give you and ultimately you don't own anything.

If this venture is something that you believe there is a very big market for, then do it custom and right the first go around. In my opinon, something totally from scratch (design, programming, database) then you are going to be looking more towards $2500-$5000 depending on who does it and how much information they need, etc. I would avoid trying to save a few dollars here and there if this is a venture that you truly believe will take off. Nothing like losing sales because of something that doesn't work to your specifications.

Oh, that's a plus! I always like it when people have their own ideas on which I can base my own creations. That way, we understand each other 🙂.

Do you do logos?
 
I'd say $10,000 minimum for the site development, $300.00 - $500.00/month for dedicated and managed server depending upon what your expected usage is, $100.00 SSL cert. The site security should be in the hands of whoever does the development as that person will be writing the code and setting up the DB. You'll also get help from the dedicated hosting company in securing the server side of things. And then there's the online CC processing software that will have its own security.

I'm in the midst of launching my own project right now and in lieu of spending the cash for site develoment, I'm writing it all myself. I've spent the last 4 months writing much of the frontend and all of the backend. It's all custom and the backend came out pretty slick. If you're looking for a good dedicated and managed server host, I can recommend LiquidWeb.

Another suggestion is to get someone to invest in your project. I went out and found a couple of partners to invest some decent money while retaining 57% interest. This will carry my operations through all of next year and gives me a good bit of cash to spend on marketing. I also insisted that the partners were of the silent type - I didn't want anyone thinking their opinion on running things mattered.
