need help figuring out a david copperfield trick...

ok, so for my fiancee's birthday last weekend, we went to go see a david copperfield show in dallas.

he did the exact trick as shown here:

of course, the sob story was different, with different characters, but other than that, the trick was identical, with the same jokes, props, and that weird contraption. my question is...how the heck did he do that??

ok, i really dont' care about the video or what not, i'm sure there's an easy explanation. my real question is, how did he and the guy disappear?

when i was at the show, i sat like within 50 feet of that plank that he extends out into the audience. i don't know hwo the heck he pulls that off. he is literally extended out into the audience, so that we can pretty much see all around it.

anyhow, for those of you who have seen his show, any thoughts?

the person is in on it obviously, but yeah that's a very good trick, maybe he has every possibility on video beforehand and just edits it to match whatever is going on..... or some sort of green screen

yea...he's definitely in on it and the video is edited...

but my question is how he disappears while allowing the audience full view (which my fiancee and i had) around the booth.

maybe he did sell his soul to satan 🙂

also notice when they zoom into his hand the background is over a white cloud so it just turns white, and when he took the Polaroid and showed it he had his hand in front of the white board....dissapearing is easy for him cuz he sold his soul ofcourse.

I bet you in the back, in some secret basement, they are using the same computer that MNF uses to paint those digital lines on the field, to trick the entire audience into thinking it was a first down

I saw him do this trick a few years ago at one of his shows. He kind of screwed up the "live from <blank>" location. At first he said it was live from Spain or something but then changed it to live from Hawaii half way through after they realized it would be dark in Spain.

The camera angle does get fishy when he appears and disapears from the beach.

I believe he gave it away how it was done when he mentioned Jurassic park and Star Wars. The video was made before the show and then digitally altered for the marker on his arm and the Polaroid picture.

You do realize that isn't an actual answer. They were there, then they weren't. There are only six directions to go. I have no idea. Out the back somehow, but I don't know.

yep...and i saw it in person. happened just like the video, in a smaller venue too

Definitely edited at another time. Notice how he doesn't say the names of the people when he's in Hawaii or anything but show his arm and the picture, which can EASILY be digitally edited.
