Hi Guys

need some help,my computer took a up date and say my windows is not genuine ,I could not access the control panel so I did a virus scan and remove a lot of virus then there was more updates and thinking that maybe this will fix my problem I installed those update, now the computer rebooted and started asking for password which, I never had one. I tried to start in safe mode but it refuse to boot . So i tried to a format useing windows xp but when I try that it come up on the same screen asking for password. So I put the hard drive in another computer format with windows 7 put it back in the old computer and now its saying that it needs to do a system repair, when I allowed it do a system repair it say that it connot auto repair. so I put it back in the other computer remove the information that I needed and slave it to the other hard drive then format in on that computer the way you would format a flashdrive. Now I put it in the old computer and it states that the Nftl is missing so I put the hard drive back into the other computer and format it with window xp remove it and put in in the old computer now it refuse to boot at all I try to boot from the dvd drive using the windows xp but it just restart so try to boot from harddrive but now all it does is restart when i try to boot it up. it keep asking if I eant to boot in safe mode, normal ect. i tried all the modes but each time it restarts and go back to the same screen ask if i should boot in same mode, normal ect. what should i do next?

holy run on sentence.

Sounds like you did not format the drive even though you say you did. Boot from your XP cd, wipe out all partitions and let XP setup create a new one and install windows. Maybe you have other drives attached in that system? Disconnect them.

Since you are installing XP also make sure the BIOS is not set to AHCI mode. That can cause a reboot loop if you don't have drivers slipstreamed in your CD.

Thank for your help but its still not working. The computer only has 1 hard drive , when I put it in my computer it works perfectly. It refuse to boot in the old computer, so i tried my hard drive that is working in my computer in the old computer still refuse to boot. It's not able to boot from the xp cd. I have come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the motherboard not the hard drive. Could be possible that the updates has locked my motherboard,. and if so how can I clear it ?
Ps: when i go into BIOS i cannot find the part that you mention AHCI

ok so I went a head and put the hard drive in another computer and i installed windows xp pro. I put it back in the old computer and it now starting in safe mode. When i try to start it in normally it restarts so I put the windows Xpcd in the cd-rom and try to boot from cd it only restarts. If i start in safe mode and go in to my computer and click on the cd/dvd drive it say to put a disc in drive. I dont know what to do next. does anyone have any ideas?
